Benjamin’s Children’s Books

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Sep 24, 2014

Benjamin’s Children’s Books is one of those shops I didn’t think existed any longer. Run by one man, when I visited yesterday afternoon with my young daughter and her mum to buy a couple of books, he had to pop a few doors down Colston Street to Bloom & Curll in order to get some change as we were the first paying customers of the day.

The books here are new and second hand, but even the second hand books are in very good condition – especially as these are children’s books.

There is everything here from AA Milne to modern authors such as Gruffalo creator Julia Donaldson and my daughter’s own favourite, Nick Sharratt of Shark in the Park fame.

There is also a section devoted to local writers in the window and parenting books at the back of the shop.

Astroturf on the floor makes it a very welcoming place for little people, who will be fascinated by the teddy bear sitting at a typewriter. There are also plans afoot to host a story session here every Monday at 1pm.

Benjamin’s Children’s Books, 64 Colston Street, Bristol, BS1 5AZ. 07854 667847.
