Bookhaus hosts Richard Morton Jack and the launch of ‘Nick Drake: The Life’

By Arron Kennon  Tuesday Jun 6, 2023

Writer Richard Morton Jack is coming to Bookhaus on Wednesday to launch his new biography Nick Drake: The Life, accompanied by a performance from indie-folk artist Old Moll.

Since his abrupt death at 26, the enigmatic life of Nick Drake has become a subject of mystery and debate among fans.

Achieving little commercial success during his lifetime, despite impressing critics, the legacy of Drake’s short life has been one of poetic suffering and misfortune.

The facts behind his mythic status have remained largely allusive, but Nick Drake: The Life sets out to finally provide a detailed account of his life as the first biography of Drake to have the blessing and involvement from his sister and estate.

Jack draws on extensive research material, including new interviews with friends, family, and collaborators, as well as previously unseen essays, private correspondence, and his father’s diaries.

Jack will be in conversation with Guardian columnist John Harris as they discuss the making of the biography and its findings.

Bookhaus will also host Old Moll, a solo indie-folk project by Molly Cheek who is based just outside of Bristol and will be giving a performance of acoustic folk.
