Preview: Bristol Festival of Literature 2018

By Joe Melia  Friday Oct 12, 2018

Bristol’s distinctive Festival of Literature returns with 10 days of events, talks, performances and workshops. The festival will also feature collaborations with favourite Bristol regulars such as Milk Poetry, Novel Nights and spoken word champions, Blahblahblah.

Highlights include bestselling crime writer, Sarah Hilary; game-changing novelist, journalist and broadcaster, Nikesh Shukla; Sufi poetry at Easton Jamia Mosque; crime, thrills & horror in the old Bridewell police cells; three UK city poet laureates including Bristol’s very own Vanessa Kisuule; and a day-long writers’ retreat with workshops led by leading writers including Jane Shemilt and Gareth L Powell.

Organised by a group of volunteer writers, publishers, readers and editors, the 8th festival promises to bring “new shapes, ideas and surprises every year” with events happening all over the city in both familiar and unlikely venues such as Arnos Vale Cemetry and Redcliffe Caves.
