Engaging Bristol’s reluctant child readers
Stanfords in Bristol has been chosen as one of eight independent bookshops across the country to take part in a new campaign to encourage children to read.
The Eager Readers Project was started earlier in 2019 as part of the Booksellers Association‘s Diversity and Inclusiveness initiative.
The project hopes to encourage children, from early years to teenagers, to read for pleasure more often.

The children can choose from a vast range of books
The organisation is working with Hannah More Primary School to get families to sign up, giving parents a chance to bond through reading to their children and letting less enthusiastic readers know that reading should be fun.
Every child will receive a £10 book token each week for six weeks to use in Stanfords book shop. Parents will also get a £10 coffee voucher every week from Small Street Espresso to help make it a trip for the whole family.

“We are delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile project to help young people discover a love of reading,” said Jacqui Goldstone, manager at Stanfords Bristol.
“Being able to support our community as part of this project is very rewarding for us as a local business.”
