Influential author’s book to be published after his death
After Glenn Carmichael’s untimely death at the age of 65, a group of his friends and fellow writers, as well as his wife, came together to publish his final novel.
Glenn was still working on the unedited book, entitled Nobody Came, at the time of his death.
The work, which follows the life of main character, Gene Campbell, a performance poet on the run from the police, is due to be published by Tangent Books on September 6.
is needed now More than ever
As a poet, novelist and creative writing teacher, well known for having founded the Bristol Poetry Slam, Glenn was described in his obituary as “charismatic, generous, funny and damn cool”.

Sara-Jane Arbury, a fellow writer on the team who helped publish the book said: “It has been a privilege to edit Glenn’s novel Nobody Came, and see it through to publication.
“He was our great friend and we all knew him through different areas of his life. The novel is so full of Glenn, his voice and style shine through. Only he could have written it.”
Glenn was also a teacher, building a novel writing course for the WEA which ran for 19 years.
It was from these classes that writing groups such as the Bristol Novelists and The Redrafters’ Club first emerged.
