Nathan Filer shortlisted for national award
Bristol author Nathan Filer’s Shock of the Fall has been nominated for ‘Popular Fiction Book of the Year’ in the Specsavers National Book Awards 2014. Earlier this year it won the Costa Book of the Year award and has sold over 300,000 copies. The 34 year-old author is a mental health nurse and also a lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University.
The Shock of the Fall describes the life of a boy from Bristol dealing with his grief at the death of his brother and experience of mental health care services for schizophrenia.
To celebrate this sales milestone, Borough Press, the book’s publisher, is giving copies of the book away to the NHS SWIMS library network via the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and The Reading Agency. Copies will be distributed to NHS practitioners and patients in hospitals across the south west, and a reading guide will also be made available to download from The Reading Agency website.
