Novel Nights set for expansion

By Joe Melia  Sunday May 12, 2019

Regular Bristol fiction and creative writing event hosts, Novel Nights, have received a significant boost by securing Arts Council England funding. This will enable them to put plans for increased activity including workshops and a podcast into action.

Novel Nights’ expansion plans include more writing masterclasses, bringing to Bristol top quality tutors and writers who have taught on prestigious courses throughout the UK including at Arvon Foundation, Curtis Brown literary agency, and Creative Writing MA programmes at Cardiff University, Plymouth University, Goldsmiths, UCL, and Birkbeck.

The Novel Nights team are also developing a digital offer. Grace Palmer, founder and main programmer at Novel Nights, and Charlotte Packer will receive specialist training in podcast production and produce a series of live author interview podcasts. The team are also aiming to eventually live stream the events.

Palmer says: “Our audience travel to our events from as far afield as Devon, Gloucester, Taunton, Swindon and South Glos. This audience will be serviced better and we will be able to offer international authors something more substantial.”

Team development is a key part of future activity too, with Colette Hill co-hosting and building an audience in Bath, while Charlotte Packer will lead the podcast initiative and co-host in Bristol.
