Bristol publisher launches summer Cafe Trail

By Joe Melia  Tuesday Jul 17, 2018

Award winning Bristol-based children’s publisher, Book Island, has invited more than 30 independent and family-friendly cafes from all parts of Bristol to be part of its first ever Cafe Trail.

Each cafe has been given one Book Island picture book, and participants in the trail are invited to locate four of the titles. Entrants are then asked to fill out a postcard with the book titles and what cafe they were found in to complete the trail.

Each complete entry will then be entered into a prize draw and the winners will get a set of Book Island books.

Since relocating to Bristol two years ago, Book Island has been building a reputation for engaging the community through picture book based projects.

Publisher Greet Pauwelijn said: “I’ve become more and more convinced that we need to focus more on our local market and community. We’re already printing much closer to home, which has improved our ecological footprint a lot. Now we just need to build a stronger following here in Bristol, which has been our home for two years.

“We’re doing that through community-based projects, like the Café Trail and our annual Picture Book Trail in October, which help us connect with local families, while supporting other independents.

“Bakers & Co on the Gloucester Road were the first café to buy a set of our picture books, which they displayed really nicely.

“Seeing how many local families have already enjoyed reading our books there, sparked the idea of the Cafe Trail, which will build more awareness about Book Island and our local independent cafes.”

The Book Island Café Trail opens on July 16 and runs until August 31. For more information, visit www.bookisland.co.uk/en/cafe-trail
