Raise the Bar annouce new home

By Joe Melia  Monday Jul 30, 2018

Raise the Bar, one of Bristol’s most popular spoken word poetry nights, will be moving their monthly shows to Arnolfini in the Autumn.

Danny Pandolfi, the mastermind behind RTB, says: “After a brilliant two years at Watershed, it makes sense for our new venue to be just across the road/river, and moving to a 200+ capacity venue is incredibly exciting for everyone who enjoys and attends our events.

“Arnolfini is a phenomenal venue with an exceptionally committed events team who have a genuine love for the arts. It’s a wonderful space which creates an incredible performer-audience dynamic, and their vision and ethos in terms of exciting, affordable, accessible and diverse programming goes hand in hand with our own, so the move makes perfect sense.”

The line ups at the monthly Arnolfini events will feature a mixture of well-known national and international performers, as well as showcasing the South West’s finest emerging talent.

New Raise the Bar resident DJ, Ngaio

The events will also feature a new resident DJ, Bristol’s DJ Ngaio, who will be spinning the best in hip-hop, R&B, world music and UK underground, “further emphasizing that we’re as much about the energy as we are about moving language”, says Danny.

“Bristol spoken word is in the best place it has ever been…with so much going on”, Danny adds. “Moving to such an acclaimed theatre venue takes Raise the Bar to the next level of breaking down dry and negative stereotypes of poetry, and instead presenting it as something entertaining, immersive, moving, funny, and an art form that appeals to everyone.”
