St Anne’s driving instructor releases new book for learners

By Charlie Watts  Thursday May 6, 2021

A St Anne’s-based driving instructor has released a new book to help learners pass their tests.

Angie Hazell, 52, runs AngieH Driving Academy and decided to write The Driving Test Faults Explained to fill the time during lockdown.

“It’s written for learners so they can have the confidence to achieve the freedom they want,” Angie explains.

“It’s quite clear about the standards you need to be driving at for your test and the rest of your life,” she adds.

Angie has been unable to run her driving school for most of the coronavirus pandemic due to government restrictions.

“It’s been really difficult taking away something you actually love to do and being under the control of someone else. It’s been quite an odd experience really,” she says.

Instead, she has spent the last 12 months working with the South Bristol Enterprise Support project on her new book, which she calls a “family affair”.

“Because my husband works at a secondary school, I got the head of English at Broadlands Academy to proofread the final copy for me. He does like his red pen,” she adds.

Angie is originally from Ashton Vale and has been a driving instructor since 2018, having been a childminder before she “swapped little children for big children”.

“It’s quite funny now because I’m actually getting a few of the people that I used to look after come through for their driving lessons,” she says.

The loosening of coronavirus restrictions mean Angie is now able to run her business again – and she is glad to be “back to a bit of normality”.

“It’s just lovely to be out there again, having a little wave to other driver instructors as you’re going around, and giving people the opportunity to learn how to drive,” she adds.

The Driving Test Faults Explained costs £9.99 and can be purchased by contacting Angie: www.angiehdriving.wixsite.com/angiehdrivingacademy
