Co-founder and co-producer of the festival, David Parker, explains more about the motivation behind the three-day literary jamboree: “Books and reading are essential to a happy life and we want to encourage a pleasure and satisfaction in reading and writing. We want to inspire young and old (and middle aged) to write and read widely – poetry, prose, drama.
“We have a number of authors living or working on our area and we thought it a good idea to invite them to talk to anyone who want to come about their passion in the written and spoken word. FOCCAL do many activities to support our local library, a festival is but an extension of those initiative.”
On the organisers’ hopes and ambitions for the festival, Parker goes on to say that they want “to have the venues bursting with activity and entertaining and thoughtful contributions; to engage as many as possible with reading and writing; to broaden the appeal and use of Clifton Library and in general for everyone to have a bloody good time.”
The action will mainly take place at Clifton Library. Other venues hosting events include Christchurch church and The Fringe.
The inaugural Clifton LitFest takes place from November 15 to 17. For full details on individual events, ticket prices and timings, visit https://www.foccal.com/litfest2019/
