Two friends to open new bookshop
The two owners of the Small City Bookshop aim to bring back the magic of storytelling to the high street.
Bristol’s newest bookshop is being opened on Church Road in Redfield by two friends, Christie Cluett and Sarah Balfour, who will also be joined by Pam the shop dog.
Christie has been a secondary school and adult literacy teacher, and has also run popular storytelling nights; while Sarah has years of bookselling experience in Waterstones and independent bookshops.

In between the painting of the shopfront, with shelves also ready to be painted and put together, Chrissie said that she has planning to open a bookshop for the last five years.
“This has always been a dream. We just really wanted to find the right space because we really wanted to find somewhere that we could have events and you need a decent amount of space for that.
“We don’t just want to be a shop selling books; we want to create the magic of what a bookshop feels like so holding events within that space is really important to us.”
Chrissie, who lives in Henleaze, said the diverse range of books will reflect the makeup of the neighbourhood in and around Church Road.
“We want to create a space for everyone. Somewhere that feels like a traditional bookshop but with a bit of a modern twist.”
