Budding participants with a VR compatible computer, an Oculus or Vive headset and a stable internet connection will also be able to join via virtual reality.
Director of CircusWorks Lynn Carroll is excited about the opportunities afforded by hosting a hybrid event, extending the reach of the conference to people across the world. “Lost Horizon have been amazing at helping us set up ways in which people can attend online, via Zoom and Virtual Reality,” she says.
“We will even have talks being led by people in Canada and Portugal being displayed as holograms at Lost Horizon.”
The many organisations represented at Circus Rising include Mimbre, Sexual Health Circus, Circusful, EYCO, Performers Without Borders, Aim to Fly, Sweet Circus, CARAVAN, Pearls of Juggling, Co-Train, Stiklings, Circus Alba and CRITAC – the Center for Circus Arts Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer at École Nationale de Cirque, Montréal.
Kate Webb will be giving talks on the Arts Council England Strategy for circus, and sector development project Circus Change UP during the conference.
“Circus Rising is a great opportunity to hear from international experts in circus and to learn about the potential of both learning and teaching circus,” she told Bristol 24/7. “It’s also about feeling part of the community, and meeting lots of lovely people.”
Tickets are available now, and ticket holders (excluding day passes) will be able to access recordings of workshops for six months after the event.
CircusRising is at Circomedia, Portland Square, St Paul’s, Bristol, BS2 8SJ, Lost Horizon HQ, 1-3 Elton St, Bristol, BS2 9EH, and online, on February 21-23. The full programme is available at www.circusworks.org. Tickets can be booked via www.eventbrite.co.uk.
