Join the party celebrating Bristol’s South Asian DJs
Bristol24/7 previously asked the question: where are Bristol’s South Asian DJs?
Speaking to Adibah Iqbal, otherwise known as DJ Adeevah, it became clear that the DJs are very much around but they’re often likely to be getting as much attention as their white counterparts who tend to dominate the lineups for big nights across the city.
Bristol’s RepresentAsian podcast and 1020 radio show is on a mission to change that and bring local talent to the forefront.
is needed now More than ever
Dedicated to spotlighting the contribution of South Asian professionals in the UK music industry, the hosts Safiya Haneen and Yusuf Suave are hosting their first club night taking place at Crofters Rights on Friday February 18.
Yusuf Suave and DJ Adeevah will be joined by Brown Excellence and no_one DJ, RISHI.
As well as hearing spatterings of Bollywood and Bhangra, expect to hear genres across the board with lots of garage, UK funky, afro house and more.

On why he felt it was important to put on a night, Yusuf said: “At RepresentAsian we want to champion the South Asian people who have traditionally been on the fringes of the UK music industry.”
“On top of that, it’s really important to address the endless stereotypes we’ve had to face. I’m slowly discovering my love for more traditional South Asian music but this night is to make the point that as South Asian DJs, we shouldn’t be limited or expected to play only Bollywood or Bhangra – we can play whatever we want.”
