UK Garage 5-Piece announce exclusive party in The Crown basement

By Miles Arnold  Thursday Jun 9, 2022

The rise in popularity of underground UK garage over the past couple of years has brought with it a similar rise in a care-free attitude to dance music. Remixes of popular tunes, AKA bootlegs, have been on the rise massively, and whilst this has always been at the centre of the garage scene since its inception in the late 90s, its prevalence now feels stronger than ever.

Leading the charge in this pursuit of the lairiest bootleg are five-piece garage and breaks sensation 128kbps. Consisting of scene leaders Longeez, Papa Nugs, Oldboy, Phasmid and Xander, since launching their first EP back in July of 2021, they have continued to push the music forward through their joint efforts and their individual solo productions, each of which have their own incredibly specific style.

Their latest EP, titled Now that’s what I call C*pyright Infringement! 128 sees the boys breathe new life into many popular tracks, one of the most well received being Phasmid’s edit of Kid Cudi – Day ‘n’ Nite, turning it from an introspective Hip-Hop/RnB number into a warping speed garage/bassline tune.

Last week marked the first time all five DJs had even been in the same room together, playing a marathon three hour set at Dare To Club that can really only be described as a wild ride. But that’s not the end of their tour of Bristol.

Saturday June 18th sees the quintet take to the basement of The Crown on St Nicks for an entire night of 128kbps. Each member will be playing their own set, and there will no doubt be some back to back crossover in between. Papa Nugs will unfortunately not be present, but you can be certain that the other four will make up for his absence.

Capacity for the event is only 100, so tickets aren’t expected to hang around. They’re currently sitting at £7, and can be purchased here.
