Comedy duo Stokes & Summers preview their Fringe debut at the Bristol Improv Theatre

By Sarski Anderson  Friday Jul 22, 2022

Kate Stokes and Claudia Summers met while studying drama at the University of Bristol, and decided to form the comedy partnership Stokes & Summers.

They will be previewing their Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut show Careering at the Bristol Improv Theatre on July 29.

Their first touring show A Really Really Big Modern Telly identified them as ‘ones to watch’ among the fringe comedy press, but it was 2020 that elevated them into a double act with a huge media presence.

Their podcast sketches were regularly featured on BBC Radio Bristol during the pandemic lockdowns, while their TikTok 60 second film parodies racked up 15 million views and 55,000 followers in the same year.

Stokes & Summers have since been awards-shortlisted by the Evening Standard and Funny Women, worked with Comic Relief, and built up a raft of sketches celebrating and satirising “the quirks and perks of the modern workplace”.

Careering features a parade of characters in fictional multi-company office block Hades House, “where every floor is full of stories, every office is full of oddballs, and behind every desk sits someone dealing with their demons”.

As the show traverses this diverse building, it explores attitudes to work, as well as work-life balance and “the conflict between following your dreams and paying your bills”.
