More gigs added to biggest Belly Laughs ever
As if expanding to three cities wasn’t ambitious enough, the charity fundraising behemoth that Belly Laughs has become is set to grow yet further in 2023.
While there is still plenty of ticket availability for gigs in Bath and Bimingham, where the event is new, it’s an entirely different story in Belly Laughs’ home city.
In fact, with all 34 of the Bristol stand-up and food nights in local independents already sold out, a new tranche of shows is set to be announced on Tuesday January 10.
is needed now More than ever
There will be 11 gigs put on sale for ‘Comedy on the Cobbles’ on King St and Welsh Back on January 16 including Bristol Old Vic, Small Bar and The Famous Royal Naval Volunteer, and another batch in and around Bedminster on January 30-31 including The Bristol Loaf, Zara’s Chocolates and Little Yellow Cafe.
For both clusters of these shows, Belly Laughs have teamed up with the local Business Improvement Districts (Bristol City Centre BID and Bedminster BID respectively).

“We knew Belly Laughs 23 was going to be big,” reflects founder and Bristol comedy institution, Mark Olver, “but it’s pretty much blown all of our expectations.
“We’re hosting 150+ gigs in four weeks across three cities and will be raising more money than ever before, putting more money back into local independent businesses, and it feels great.
“We’ve got a fantastic group of comedians donating their time (and jokes) to the cause and its just utter chaos, in the best way possible!”

The lineups for Belly Laughs gigs are kept secret. Previous years have showcased a mix of emerging talent, established headline acts and a sprinkling of TV names performing unique shows in intimate spaces.
This year’s main charity beneficiaries are Caring in Bristol for local gigs, Julian House in Bath, and SIFA Fireside in Birmingham.
In conjunction with One25, the organisers are also inviting attendees in Bristol to help women fleeing trauma or in crisis, by bringing along any spare:
- sanitary products;
- pants and socks;
- deodorant and bathroom products;
- women’s winter coats.
