Multi-award-winning trans comic sensation Jordan Gray to open debut UK tour in Bristol

By Sarski Anderson  Wednesday Jun 14, 2023

By any measure, trans comic Jordan Gray is a phenomenon.

After 10 years in the music business (including a memorable run on BBC One’s The Voice), a sold out run of her comedy show Is It a Bird? at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2022 earned her a raft of five star reviews and a remarkable wave of support that has propelled her forwards ever since.

Selling out a month of dates at the Soho Theatre, she also performed live on Channel 4’s Friday Night Live in October – stripping naked, and affording trans bodies a level of mainstream visibility on UK TV – before going on just a week later to be the first trans person ever to play the London Palladium as a solo act.

In 2023, the accolades have continued to roll in, including a nomination for most outstanding show at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, a Breakthrough Comedy Award win at the National Comedy Awards, and the news that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have picked up her web series Transaction for TV development.

Gray is set to open her debut UK tour of Is It a Bird? in September with a date at Tobacco Factory Theatres on September 6.

The show is a riotous celebratory hour that brings together her love of superheroes, her strong Essex roots, and her life as a trans woman with her take on “babies, boobies, bigots and Batman”.

And all underpinned by some blistering tunes, too.

Jordan Gray: Is It a Bird? (age recommendation 14+) is at Tobacco Factory Theatres on September 6 at 8pm, and then touring the UK. Tickets are available at www.tobaccofactorytheatres.com.

Gray’s podcast, Transplaining is available on acast or other podcast feeds.
