Slapstick Festival celebrates 10 years
The tenth anniversary Slapstick Festival begins today with Omid Djalili hosting the Silent Comedy Gala at the Colston Hall featuring Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights with 39- piece orchestra the Bristol Ensemble.
Festival regulars Barry Cryer, Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Paul McGann will this year be joined for the first time by Djalili, Harry Hill and Tim Vine.
The centrepiece of the three-day festival is the launch of what will be a year-long global celebration of the centenary of Chaplin’s character The Tramp – first seen on screen in January 1914.

Slapstick will even roll over into March when Barry Humphries will be presented with the Comedy Legend award at St George’s.
