Call for participants in UK Premiere of Doris Uhlich’s groundbreaking choreography ‘HABITAT’

By Sarski Anderson  Friday Apr 1, 2022

Austrian choreographer Doris Uhlich is characterised for making visceral and challenging work that interrogates convention.

She investigates the body, the relationship between human being and machine, and our obsession with the pursuit of surgical and genetic perfection.

Uhlich’s piece HABITAT, dubbed “a celebration of unity in diversity”, will be making its UK premiere as part of the 2022 Mayfest programme, with performances at The Galleries on May 28-29.

It promises to be an enthralling, enigmatic and unique ensemble piece that “illuminates the naked human body” through a mass of volunteer performers, enlisted from across Bristol.

Mayfest organisers Mayk are now recruiting 70 people (aged 18+) for the project. Participation is voluntary, though refreshments are provided and a £55 contribution towards expenses is made for each person.

No experience or formal dance training is required.

Prospective participants are now welcome to submit applications. Note that nudity is required from all performers in the project. Workshops and performances will be wheelchair accessible. Full availability during workshops days (over w/c May 23), rehearsals and performance days is requested. Anyone preferring to have an informal chat or ask any questions ahead of submitting an application is invited to email diana@mayk.org.uk.
