SESSION is the electric new show from the unique theatre and dance makers Still House (they of the brilliant Of Riders and Running Horses), and it pitches up in Bristol later this month (July 27-29).
Produced by Mayfest programmers MAYK, SESSION is an explosive gathering made by Still House in a unique collaboration with Tottenham’s Steppaz Performing Arts Academy and North London’s Afrobeats powerhouse Empire Sounds, creating an exhilarating night of dance and live music where everyone is welcome.
is needed now More than ever
Kicking up a storm in the heart of Broadmead, SESSION is part gig, part social, part dance party as 25 young dancers move across hip-hop, contemporary folk and afrobeats vocabularies, celebrating community, youth and belonging.
As part of their mission to bring extraordinary live experiences to people and places all over Bristol, MAYK is partnering with Creative Youth Network’s The Station on the presentation of SESSION.
Empire Sounds is a London-based music production enterprise which consists of artists, producers, songwriters and musicians with the skill and creativity to create good music. Their aim is to take the current urban music scene to another level by using its creative chemistry, creativity and knowledge to overload the music industry with fresh and new music.
Steppaz was founded in 2013 and led by some of north London’s best-known and most respected performing arts practitioners. Specialising in creating inspirational and innovative programmes for children and young people, Steppaz provides low-cost professional classes for local children and young people in order to help develop self-confidence, creativity, problem solving, perseverance, focus, collaboration, dedication and accountability.
“SESSION is a uniquely bold and brilliant undertaking that has resulted in something truly special and life-affirming: a work of dazzling skill and passion, that celebrates youth, identity, power and connection,” say MAYK’s co-directors Kate Yedigaroff and Matthew Austin. “We can’t wait to share this work with Bristol audiences this summer.”
