Review: Meridian Soluna Celebration, Wake The Tiger – ‘A mystical escape from reality’

By Rachel Sutherland  Saturday Mar 25, 2023

“It really reminds me of Boomtown in here,” a woman wearing a headdress of hanging ivy uttered to her group of friends as we passed through a dreamlike world inside Wake The Tiger.

People of all ages, adorned in garments relating to the event’s sun and moon theme, gathered to mark the arrival of spring for its sold out Meridian Soluna Celebration on Friday.

Flames rose from inside the wallet of a magician as he wowed party goers with card tricks and light up hula hoops were spun in the air by a performer as the upbeat music of a live band played out the speakers.

The event, hosted by Wake The Tiger – the artistic team behind the immersive festival, Boomtown Fair, provided non-stop entertainment from start to finish, in what was an extremely Bristol night.

Inside the warehouse on Albert Road exists a reality of its own, providing a mystical escape from reality.

The array of impressive homemade costumes made it difficult to differentiate the paid staff from the revellers.

The themes of nature running through Wake The Tiger tied in with the purpose of the event ‘to honour the awakening of spring’.

We were ushered through its ‘sorting office’, stepping into a fantastical world of glowing psilocybin mushrooms, colourful trees and a box of mirrors. Only to be placed into one of four guilds, earth, air, water and fire.

Stepping out of the alternate universe, a musical duo had the crowd dancing in a high energy frenzy – the night had been stepped up a gear.

Afro house music was blasted out by the talented Raz & Afla, who each switched between instruments more than once during their uplifting set.

After its Meridian Soluna Celebrations, Wake The Tiger has proven itself not only to be the world’s first amazement park, but a wonderful event space for live music and entertainment.
