Anti-monarchy festival to take place on jubilee weekend
‘Fuck The Jubilee’ is the slogan of a new festival being held on the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
While lots will take part in street parties and watch the monarch’s birthday parade to celebrate her seven decades of service, those in three Bristol venues will be celebrating differently.
On Thursday, June 2 until Saturday, June 4, The Plough, the Lion and the Chelsea Inn are set to host a punk festival – in protest of the British monarchy and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’s national celebrations.

Costing a fiver, each of the three Easton pubs will present a multitude of DJs, bands and performances – from Mutilated State, Cocaine, Disorder to System of Slaves, Kiss Me Killer and more.
The festival on the bank holiday is being organised by Bristol Skum Collective, who put on “DIY alternative gigs”. The collective’s aim is “to put something back into the scene we love and to support great causes”.
A promotional image for the festival sees a photo of Prince Andrew with his eyes covered by wording ‘mum save the nonce’.
About the weekend’s celebrations, culture secretary Nadine Dorries said: “I hope that people and communities across the country will come together to pay tribute to Her Majesty – whether that be to watch on big screens or toasting Her Majesty at a Big Jubilee Lunch with their neighbours or coming together in their local village hall.”
The Easton Punk Festival 2022 joins other events held across the country, including those to protest against the monarchy.
Anti-monarchy pressure group Republic have launched a campaign entitled ‘Not Another 70’ to coincide with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
It calls for an end to the monarchy, culminating in a conference on the same weekend as the national celebrations.
