Bristol Transformed returns for 2022

By Betty Woolerton  Friday Apr 1, 2022

Radical politics, data justice and grassroots activism will be topics explored in a festival returning for its third iteration in Bristol.

Bristol Transformed will be a discussion hotbed of socialist politics, arts and culture in venues around St Paul’s and the city centre.

Billed the “hottest political event in town”, the festival is a grassroots, volunteer-run annual event that aims to create a space to discuss key issues people are grappling with today.

Taking place from May 13-15, the festival will be held in several locations across the city: the Malcom X Community Centre, Strange Brew, the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft and the Docklands Youth Centre.

The weekend in May is set to be filled with debate, art, games and parties, with sessions including How Your Boss is Stealing From You, The Social Strike Game, The War in Ukraine and Making Bristol Ours Again. The full festival programme can be found on the Bristol Transformed website.

About the festival’s aims, organisers wrote: “Bringing together activists, trade unionists and leading figures on the left, we’re creating the space to discuss the most important issues facing us, equipping us with the skills and knowledge to transform Bristol and the world for our collective future.”

It is inspired by another festival, the World Transformed, which describes itself as a “year-round political education project to imagine, demand and build a world transformed”.

Ticket prices have been devised to be as inclusive as possible by setting a minimum price for first release, unwaged, low wages, student ticket and solidarity ticket. They range from £5 to £25.
