Sidcot School to host second annual festival
For the second year running, Sidcot School will host a summer festival, this time with a theme of ‘peace’.
The event, named ‘Breaking Waves: Holding your course and having fun in turbulent times’ will take place on Sunday June 18, from 12-5pm at the fee-paying Quaker boarding school in North Somerset.
An impressive and inspiring line up of speakers and performers is confirmed, including Bart Weetjens, founder of APOPO, a social enterprise training giant African pouched rats to sniff out land mines and tuberculosis. So far, the research has saved many lives across a number of countries.

Another speaker will be the founder of Building Bridges for Peace, Jo Berry, who has travelled to some of the most hostile countries in the world to promote her message of peace and conflict resolution. There will be no shortage of amazing and eye-opening stories being told to the audiences at the festival, that is for sure.
The festival aims to provide young people with a memorable and influential experience, outside of schooling. “It’s important to provide young people with this type of experience,” says Miriam Gosling, Sidcot School’s director of peace and global studies – the only such role in a UK school. “There can be no better inspiration to young people to face the future with optimism.”
Also appearing at the festival will be Bristol-based Invisible Circus’ youth circus, and a ‘human library’, filled with people with interesting stories and tales to tell.
