Simple Things Festival’s 2019 lineup announced

By Lowie Trevena  Wednesday Jul 31, 2019

Simple Things Festival 2019 looks to be the most diverse yet – with new music, new audio-visual screenings, a programme of talks and cutting edge technology.

Taking place over six venues throughout Bristol and with acts on 12 stages, the music lineup has been announced. The lineup for Simple Things EXT – talks, tech and unique performances throughout the week of the festival – is still to come.

The festival opens on Friday, October 18 with a concert premiering 10000 Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid. This audio-visual piece by William Basinski and visual collaborators Evalina Dominetch and Dmitry Gelfand takes places in the IMAX cinema.

On Saturday, October 19 the ‘day’ part of the festival will be headlined by Holly Herndon, who will present her new show PROTO, another groundbreaking audio-visual piece.

Other acts performing include hyperdub musician Kode9 and animator Kōji Morimoto, with a piece inspired by Japanese video game music.

Elsewhere, other highlights performing during the day include post-punk band A Certain Ratio, queer feminist riot grrl’s Big Joanie and Ghanian musician Ata Kak. With over 40 acts, there’s everything from indie-pop by Shadowlark to local acts such as Oliver Wilde’s Pet Shimmers.

Taking place at Lakota & Coroner’s Court, the ‘night’ lineup looks just as varied and exciting. Techno musician Avalon Emerson will headline, with support from Andrew Weatherall, Jayda G and Dr Rubinstein (who is making her Bristol debut at the festival).

Local talent Bruce will also perform, and Laurel Halo, Parris and many others also join the stellar lineup.

Showcasing some of the most cutting edge, diverse talent of the moment, this year’s Simple Things Festival lineup is as creative and varied as ever.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Thursday, August 1. Find out more at www.simplethingsfestival.co.uk
