Sudafest 2022 to take place at acta in Bedminster
A rich celebration of Sudanese culture is set to take place at acta Community Theatre in Bedminster on July 16-17.
The festival follows the success of the inaugural 2021 event, Sudafest features an expanded programme of activities for 2022.
Across the weekend, Sudafest will encompass a vibrant and diverse array of events for all ages, from theatre, music and dance to workshops, storytelling, children’s activities, a community art exhibition and a procession.

Visitors can also enjoy a traditional Sudanese coffee ceremony – a Jebena – as well as home cooked Sudanese food available to purchase from Tukul Kitchen, and market stalls selling authentic crafts.
The Saturday night will also feature a comedy night, starring Mamoun Elagab and Mohamed Terwis, and Sudanese rapper YK who has diverse influences including neo-soul and afro-beats.

On the Sunday, the focus is on Sudanese women. Alongisde perfume making, a Bridal dance workshop (for women only), creative workshops and music from Bristol-based oud duo Nabra, there will be a performance based on the life of Sudanese writer, educator and womens’s rights activist, Malkat al-Dar Muhammad.
The organisers are excited to welcome everyone to this year’s festival – both those with Sudanese heritage and those who want to learn more.

Sudafest 2022 is at acta Community Theatre on July 16-17. Entry is free across the weekend, except to the comedy night, for which tickets are £8, and can be purchased in advance. More information is available at www.acta-bristol.com/sudafest-2022.
