Bristol Film Festival: The Princess Bride
Rob Reiner's great comic fantasy screened in Bristol Museum
Did you know it’s 30 years since that evergreen favourite The Princess Bride was released? It’s also Predator‘s 30th anniversary, the 40th anniversary of the brilliant-yet-overlooked Sorcerer, and the 20th anniversary of cult anime Perfect Blue.
All these films are back in cinemas to celebrate. But who needs an anniversary to bring a great movie back to the big screen? Plenty of other classics are being revived this autumn, often in pristine 4K remastered form. Among them are The Silence of the Lambs, which forms the cornerstone of the BFI’s big thriller season; Kubrick’s The Shining, with a new short film about its creation; and – hurrah! – the greatest zombie movie of all time: George A. Romero’s original Dawn of the Dead. Deliciously, you can enjoy Romero’s mall-set consumerist satire at the Showcase Cinema De Lux, situated right in the heart of Bristol’s own temple of consumerism – Cabot Circus.
