Award-winning new horror film shot on SS Great Britain

By Mia Vines Booth  Tuesday Feb 14, 2023

A new horror film on Amazon Prime featuring an arctic fish creature was filmed on the SS Great Britain.

Freeze stars Rory Wilton (Poldark, Doc Martin) as captain of a ship on an Arctic expedition where the crew become stranded and hunted by fish creatures.

Bristol history fanatics will recognise the fully equipped galley and bakery being put to good use as well as the first class dining saloon.

Charlie Steeds, who directed the film, hired out the SS Great Britain for all the ship’s interior scenes.

Practical men-in-suit fish monsters were unleashed through the ship’s interior, a change from the usual buzz of school children.

The exterior of the ship was shot in Norway in the same place Empire Strikes Back was shot.

Freeze won an award for Best Film at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Oregon where it had its world premiere, and was also played at FrightFest Halloween at Cineworld in Leicester Square.

Lovers of horror and Bristol can enjoy the film on Amazon Prime.
