After a couple of fairly quiet weekends, the UK box office received a massive boost with new entries in the top three places, knocking The Batman down to number four after four weeks at the top. The second Sonic the Hedgehog flick was never going to appeal to critics, but there were enough of the computer game adaptation’s fans to ensure it opened ahead of the first film. With just shy of £5m already in the kitty, it’s no surprise to learn that further Sonic films and spin-offs are already in the works. This week’s Marvel flick, Morbius, defied some of the worst reviews of any comicbook adaptation to open in second place. That left well-received, fast-paced DreamWorks family animation The Bad Guys at number three. But with school holidays on the horizon, this one is likely to hold on for quite some time. Although the first four films in the chart accounted for the overwhelming bulk of weekend takings, it’s also worth noting that the foreign-language hit of the moment, The Worst Person in the World, is doing exceptionally well in just 130 cinemas.
