It’s no surprise to find that family flicks dominated the UK box office over the Bank Holiday weekend, with each of the top three taking more than £2m. Jolly boilerplate Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum treasure hunt romp The Lost City narrowly succeeded in deposing the third Fantastic Beasts flick, The Secrets of Dumbledore, which suffered a fairly sharp decline in takings. By contrast, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 held up strongly in its third week on release and is now up to £16m. That left the new releases for grown-ups, The Northman and Operation Mincemeat, settling for fourth and fifth place respectively. Two other new releases at the foot of the chart underline the continuing importance of Indian cinema to the UK exhibition industry: Tamil-language action comedy Beast, which is also on release in Hindi dubbed form, and Kannada-language period action sequel K.G.F: Chapter 2.
