The mysterious appearance of a bright yellow orb in the sky caused everyone to forget to go to the cinema at the weekend. Consequently, takings fell by more than 50% across the board. Rampage clung on at the top, but is certain to be usurped by Avengers: Infinity War next week. This will also kill off Black Panther after ten weeks on release. If Marvel had anticipated how well Mr. Panther would do, they’d probably have milked it for another couple of weeks before unleashing the latest Avengers. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was the highest new entry, and is likely to continue to do well among blockbuster nay-sayers, especially given that its audience are not the type of people to engage in an unseemly opening weekend stampede. Oldie flick The Leisure Seeker and YA adaptation Every Day, meanwhile, both flopped spectacularly. Peter Rabbit fell from second to fifth place, but Sony are unlikely to be too concerned given that it now ranks as their highest-grossing non-Bond release. Outside the chart, the presciently titled Let the Sunshine In took a mere £48,500. But it is playing in only 22 cinemas.
