Ever-popular Dutch violinist and conductor Andre Rieu scored his first UK box office number one at the weekend with the event cinema broadcast of his annual summer concert from Maastricht. In financial terms, this is by no means Andre’s biggest hit, but none of his rivals took more than £1m at the weekend and overall takings for the top five fell by nearly 25%. The self-styled King of the Waltz forced the king of the jungle into second place, as the Idris Elba-starring Beast (pictured) – aka “Jaws with paws” – opened on a relatively meagre £600,000. Jordan Peele’s Nope tumbled to number five after two weeks at the top, while Fisherman’s Friends: One and All sank from sixth to tenth place. By contrast, Top Gun: Maverick actually increased its takings during its 14th week on release and has now overtaken Titanic to reach number nine in the UK all-time box office chart.
