Paddington 2 enjoys a second consecutive week at the top and is poised to become the ninth release of 2017 to power through the £30m barrier. Mind you, it was actually a pretty quiet weekend at the box office as everyone preferred to stay in and/or watch snow melting. The Disaster Artist was the highest new entry at number six – although technically this was its second week on release, as those sophisticated metropolitan types in the Smoke got to enjoy it a full week before the rest of us. Stronger enjoyed a rather, er, weak performance, crawling in at number 10 and perhaps underlining the UK cinema audience’s shameful resistance to uplifting tales of US heroism. Ahead of it in ninth place is the repeat screening of the Royal Ballet’s live broadcast of The Nutcracker. This year’s feast of family-friendly hoofing has now taken a tidy £1m overall.
