Origin story Wonka conquered Napoleon at the weekend with an £8.9 million UK box office haul, sending the Ridley Scott drama back into fourth place. Disney animation Wish, meanwhile, is proving more popular with smaller members of the public than it did with critics, climbing back to number two after three weeks on release. Beyonce’s Renaissance concert film is doing rather less well, recording a 73% drop in takings during its second weekend on release. Elf continues to win the battle of the festive reissues ahead of this week’s contender, Home Alone. At the foot of the chart, Poland’s official Oscar entry, hand-painted animation The Peasants, is coining it on the arthouse circuit on the back of rave reviews.
