Those blue folks of Avatar: The Way of Water have been deposed by an animated cat after seven weeks at the top. For those who are counting, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the sixth film in the Shrek franchise. Its £5m opening weekend puts it £3m ahead of the first Puss in Boots flick, which was released back in 2011, and reasserts the importance of the kiddie pound at the UK box office. Suffering from typically mixed revews, M. Night Shyamalan’s latest horror, Knock at the Cabin, could only manage third place, with an opening weekend marginally ahead of Shyamalan’s previous film, Old. The only other new release in this week’s chart was The Whale, which did well to make the top five while playing to a rather more selective audience. Action thriller Pathaan, meanwhile, now ranks as the most successful Indian film ever released in the UK.
