Viral creepy doll horror hit M3gan is the latest contender to fail to topple Avatar: The Way of Water, though it came closer than most, with an impressive £2.3m opening weekend, ahead of Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light. The Way of Water remains on track to beat the first Avatar film and, having crossed the £60m mark, currently holds 22nd place in the UK’s all-time chart. When it reaches the top ten, it’ll dislodge James director Cameron’s other big hit: Titanic. Playing to a more niche audience, the Oscar-bound Tár was the only other major new release in this week’s chart.
