There’s still a large audience for endlessly spiralling self-referentialism, as the Scream ‘reboot’ proved by opening in second place with a haul of nearly £2.5m over the weekend. It didn’t manage to repeat the trick of dethroning Spider-Man: No Way Home, as it has in the US, but already ranks as the highest-grossing 18-rated film released in the UK since the pandemic began. Spidey, meanwhile, continues to ascend the all-time UK top ten, but has another £10m to go before he reaches the top five. Further down the chart, West Side Story maintains its slow and steady progress, but it remains to be seen whether the musical has as long a tail (sorry) as Clifford the Big Red Dog. Outside the top-ten, lauded, awards-nominated single-take restaurant/foodie flick Boiling Point is proving a big hit among the upmarket/arthouse crowd.
