La La Land director Damien Chazelle’s Babylon was this week’s highest charting new release, but it didn’t manage to dislodge Avatar: The Way of Water or last week’s contender, spooky doll horror M3gan. There was little change elsewhere in the chart, with the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody continuing to perform strongly as it heads towards the £10m mark, while Tár remains the arthouse hit of the moment, recording only a very slight drop in takings as it holds steady. Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light, however, took a big tumble from third to seventh place. Just outside the top ten, Mark Jenkin’s Enys Men has now taken more than £200,000.
