It’s the first post-lockdown hit! Yep, Russell Crowe thriller Unhinged has become the first film since March to take more than £100,000 over its opening weekend as the slow, tentative return to cinemas continues. The number crunchers calculate that this represents a 263% increase on takings for last weekend’s number one title (Pixar’s Onward). Sure, under normal circumstances Unhinged might have been expected to take at least 10 times its haul of £175,263. But many cinemas remain closed and at least the trend is now decisively upwards. There were three other new releases in this week’s top ten, with kiddie animation 100% Wolf just beating space drama Proxima and demonic possession horror The Vigil.
