The loud and empty Transformers: The Last Knight fell a whopping 59% in its second weekend on release, tumbling to third place on the chart. It’s now on course to become the lowest-grossing entry in the whole miserable franchise. Meanwhile, the Pocket Money Pound propelled Despicable Me 3 to the top, with a huge £11m opening weekend. Technically, that’s slightly down on Despicable Me 2, but that one was boosted by shitloads of previews. Edgar Wright, meanwhile, is firmly back on track with the acclaimed jukebox action comedy Baby Driver, which scored his second biggest UK opening after Hot Fuzz. The former Wells Cinema projectionist celebrated by tweeting a video of Focus’s original Old Grey Whistle Test performance of Hocus Pocus. Classy. Of the other new releases, the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me got off to a strong start, which is more than can be said for the latest Will Ferrell comedy, The House. After five weeks, Wonder Woman finally crossed the £20m barrier, though Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge will need a very strong head wind to follow suit.
