Transformers: Rise of the Beasts proved no match for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which has now surpassed the total takings of its predecessor, Into the Spider-Verse, after just two weeks on release. The latest Transformers flick, by contrast, has fallen rather short of usual franchise standards. Could this mean curtains for the world’s most expensive toy advertisements?  Fast X is also fading, er, fast, while The Little Mermaid and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hold reasonably steady in the battle of the summer blockbusters. Three new entries at the foot of the chart are led by the arthouse hit of the moment, period biopic Chevalier, which pushes all the right diversity buttons and benefits from Disney’s backing.
