Another sunny weekend and another quiet one at the UK box office. The Batman clung on at the top for a fourth consecutive week and was the only film to take more than £1m. Tollywood action flick RRR did rather well to open ahead of Michael Bay’s underperforming Ambulance and is set to become one of the most successful Indian releases of recent years. Last week’s number two film, the anime flick Jujutsu Kaisen 0, took a sharp tumble to ninth place. Rather like those pop groups who go to number one when their fans race out to buy their latest release, which then drops abruptly out of the chart the following week, it seems as though the nerd audience stampeded to see this one while everyone else remained indifferent. Another point of note this week is that there’s only one, solitary Oscar-nominated film in the top ten at a time of alleged Oscar fever (though, of course, the big winner was released on a streaming service). The film in question is Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World, which is the arthouse hit of the moment. At the Oscars, it lost out to Drive My Car as Best International Feature and to Belfast in the Best Original Screenplay category.
