Disney’s Beauty and the Beast continues to dominate the UK box office, sailing through the £50m barrier after just three weeks. That means it’s already overtaken last year’s live-action The Jungle Book and now has a bunch of records in its sights, with the Easter holidays still to come. In second place, Ghost in the Shell didn’t perform quite as miserably as it did in the US but seems rather unlikely to recoup its $110m production cost. At number three, the ‘rebooted’ Smurfs: the Lost Village took less than half the opening weekend sums achieved by the previous two Smurf flicks. Time for a re-reboot, perhaps? Interestingly, if The Boss Baby‘s weekend previews had been counted this week, it would have grabbed second place. Clever horror Get Out continues to punch well above its weight, but Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire only made it to number seven – a disappointing performance, even if its marks his second-best chart debut behind High-Rise.
