Nobody was remotely interested in any of last week’s new multiplex releases. Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel, action-comedy Gringo, feeble Britcom Walk Like a Panther and enjoyable Nic Cage rampage Mom and Dad all failed to chart – though to be fair to Mr. Cage, his film only opened in 137 cinemas. Instead, everybody flocked to stuff that’s already been out for ages. Black Panther enjoyed a fourth week at the top and is well on its way to becoming the UK’s highest-grossing non-Avengers Marvel movie. Just when we thought The Greatest Showman was finally on its way out, the bafflingly popular musical enjoyed a remarkable 24% increase in taking during its 11th weekend on release, climbing a place to number two. As expected, Oscar winner The Shape of Water also enjoyed a boost (31%, since you ask). More surprisingly, so too did Finding Your Feet (21%), suggesting that the pensioner audience who’d been housebound by the snow took the opportunity to shuffle out en masse to see this one after the thaw.
