With no serious competition, those Guardians of the Galaxy enjoyed a second week at the top, adding another £5m. The closest contenders were Céline Dion romcom Love Again and sequel Book Club: The Next Chapter, neither of which got anywhere near a £1m opening weekend. True-life Malayalam drama 2018 was the third new entry, ahead of the Eurovision final livestream. That’s right – enough people flocked to cinemas to pay to watch this year’s kitschy bing-bang-a-bong contest to secure it a place in the top ten. In terms of screen average, however, the biggest hit of the weekend’s new releases was Italian arthouse drama The Eight Mountains, which didn’t bag a place in the chart as it’s showing in just 50 cinemas.
