Best move along swiftly if you’re bored by, or have grown out of, superheroes. Avengers: Endgame has now taken almost £70m in just two weeks and is so far ahead of everything else on the chart that nothing comes close to threatening its dominance right now. Three new releases (Long Shot, The Curse of La Llorna, Tolkien) opened behind the Marvel juggernaut, but not one of them managed to take more than £1m. Meanwhile, those Avengers clocked up a further £14m over the weekend, which means Endgame now ranks as the highest-grossing superhero film of all time in the UK. If you’re worried about what this means for choice in the nation’s multiplexes, fear not: with Captain Marvel and Shazam! still hanging on in the top ten, other superheroes are available. Spandex fans who’ve already seen all three of these and are wondering what to do with their empty, miserable lives should be reassured that yet another X-Men movie will be with us in a couple of weeks.
