Confusingly, the fourth film in the franchise but the third film in the original series (it’s as though the all-female 2016 version didn’t happen), Ghostbusters: Afterlife was last weekend’s big winner, pushing Eternals into second place. Its £4.3m opening weekend puts this one comfortably ahead of the 2016 film. Taking less than £1m over the weekend for the first time in eight weeks, No Time To Die is slipping as it continues to climb the all-time chart. The latest Bond flick has now overtaken Avatar to rank as the fourth most successful film at the UK box office. Dune finally reached £20m after five weeks on release – a personal best for director Denis Villeneuve. But perhaps all those magazine features trumpeting Will Smith’s status as box office gold have backfired, as the second new release in the top ten could only make fifth place. King Richard has also underperformed in the US, where it enjoyed the lowest-grossing opening weekend in Smith’s career. Mr. Warner and his brothers will no doubt be hoping for an awards season uplift in the well-received drama’s fortunes.
