Comedy sequel Daddy’s Home 2 was last weekend’s big winner, though it’s perhaps worth noting that Paddington 2 would have comfortably regained the top spot if it hadn’t been for those four days of previews of the Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg flick. Justice League, meanwhile, appears to be in freefall and stands little chance of catching its predecessor, Wonder Woman. Just to add salt to the DC wounds, superhero rival Thor: Ragnarok has now overtaken Guardians of the Galaxy to become the seventh highest-grossing Marvel release in the UK, and will shortly break through the £30m barrier. Marvel distributor Disney also scooped up a further £1m from its cash-in weekend re-release of Frozen accompanied by a new short film. Boosted by plenty of approving broadsheet coverage, Battle of the Sexes bagged seventh place – well ahead of George Clooney’s under-performing Suburbicon, which opened behind the oddly named Polish flick Listy Do M3.
