More records were shattered by Joker this week. It now ranks as the first film in ten years to enjoy six straight weeks at the top. Not even four days of previews of The Aeronauts was enough to dislodge the grinning supervillain. The last release to achieve this feat was James Cameron’s Avatar. Joker now ranks as the fourth highest-grossing film of the year. By contrast, fellow Warner Brothers release Doctor Sleep took a huge tumble from fourth to ninth place, with a steep 52% decline in takings. But Mr. Warner and his siblings have an additional reason to celebrate, as the Ian McKellen/Helen Mirren thriller The Good Liar beat loud and dumb putative blockbuster Midway to claim fifth place. Outside the top ten, Ken Loach’s Sorry We Missed You is up to £785,500. As usual with Ken’s films, this one seems to be doing particularly well round here, with additional cinemas picking it up.
